Aloha, summer is here! And with it, a whole host of challenges for our delicate skin. It's hot, we sweat, and we're increasingly exposed to water: daily cleansing in the shower, a dip in the water, a quick freshen-up, a cold shower after exercise. Refreshing for us, but a strain for our skin.
Here are some useful tips for skin care in summer
Tip 1: Gently cleanse and take a lukewarm shower
The skin's surface is covered with a protective film, the acid mantle, also known as the hydrolipid mantle. It consists of the skin's own fats and water. Together with other substances the skin provides, it helps it retain moisture. When we cleanse ourselves several times a day, we also wash away the protective acid mantle. The result: tight and dry skin. The good news is, it's easy to avoid:
- Shower lukewarm or cold
- Use shower gel only in the most necessary places and not all over
- Avoid aggressive washing lotions
- After a dip in the sea (salt!), shower with fresh water
The only time you can't avoid cleansing is in the evening, when it's important to thoroughly wash off any sunscreen residue.
Tip 2: Razors, waxing & Co. – thanks to peelings
Razors, sugaring, Brazilian waxing, and the like are all the rage, especially in the summer. One annoying side effect: ingrown hairs.
But this does not have to be the case! With regular Body scrubs This problem will resolve itself. Furthermore, a scrub also stimulates your skin's circulation and nourishes rough patches with effective oils, leaving them silky soft again. Mix some orange body butter, lavender body butter, or pure shea butter with a little oil and salt or sugar, and your homemade scrub is ready.
Tip 3: Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of water
While the sun provides us with vitamin D, too much sun can also dry out the skin. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating water-rich, deep-colored foods helps. This hydrates our skin from within and simultaneously improves the skin's natural defenses against sun damage.
Red or orange fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, apricots, and berries are rich in lycopene, which is important for the skin's natural protection from within. Lycopene has powerful antioxidant properties and increases the skin's ability to protect itself from free radical damage. Melons work wonders for restoring moisture to the skin. With their high water concentration, they promote a radiant complexion. Anything with dark green tones, such as broccoli or spinach, provides our body with moisture and minerals. These support the skin's ability to protect itself and counteract the damage caused by prolonged sun exposure.
As you can see, summer care from the inside and out is easy: Treat yourself to a delicious fruit salad, squeeze an orange or lemon into your water, and snack on delicious berries in between meals. Bon appétit!
Tip 4: Moisturize after sunbathing
Especially in summer, when we spend a lot of time in the sun, moisturizing is very important. This is the only way our skin can regenerate overnight. For summer skin care, I recommend cooling aloe vera gel (available from a health food store or pharmacy). Organic rose water, cold-pressed plant oils, plant butters or fresh homemade cosmetics. Sea buckthorn is my absolute favorite to stir into a mixture or in the Body Butter Orange to enjoy.
Application of oils and butter
Apply to damp skin after showering, as the Products without water Why on damp skin? Skin naturally consists of oil and water and therefore needs both for optimal absorption of ingredients. Furthermore, the oils are better absorbed and moisture can be retained for a longer period. Therefore, incorporating water into your skincare routine is a MUST.
You see, it couldn't be simpler or cleaner. All you need is a high-quality oil/butter and fresh Swiss tap water. Our favorite for summer care is the Body Butter Orange with its valuable sea buckthorn additive.
Happy summertime & enjoy!
