Why is this shea butter hard, how do I use it?

This shea butter is natural, unrefined shea butter. In other words, shea butter in its raw form. It contains no water, which has many benefits for the skin and the environment. It is very easy to use: take a generous fingertip/fingernail of the product from the tin and rub it between your palms. You will quickly see that it melts into a beautiful golden oil. You can then apply it, preferably to damp skin.

What does this unrefined shea butter smell like?

Unrefined shea butter always has a characteristic smell due to the gentle traditional production process. Otherwise, you can assume that it has been further processed. The scent varies depending on the processing, sometimes also depending on the year of harvest. Basically, the scent can be described as slightly smoky, nutty and earthy. Our shea butter smells rather subtle compared to others on the market. The slightly smoky scent comes from the fact that the nuts are roasted for the natural extraction. There are also shea butters that smell very unpleasant, which can indicate poor quality (e.g. unclean water during production, incorrect storage, etc.). Shea butter is hard? Why is that?

This product is the natural version of the raw material shea butter. This is naturally semi-hard to hard, depending on the temperature. As soon as it comes into contact with the skin, is mixed with oils or exposed to heat, it melts. You can find out how to properly melt your shea butter in a water bath in our blog.

What does this shea butter smell like?

Like all natural fats and oils, e.g. cold-pressed olive oil, unrefined shea butter also has a natural scent of its own. This is a sign of quality and can vary slightly depending on the year and harvest. Basically, shea has a characteristic earthy, nutty, tart and slightly roasted smell (roasting of the nuts in one production step). The gentle production process that we follow preserves the natural color, fragrance and thus the valuable ingredients. This has many benefits for our skin. The fragrance can be beautifully integrated into the formulation of natural cosmetic recipes, depending on the percentage of shea butter in the recipe.
